Report 2024:
Accessibility on the Internet
in Austria
This is the second report on accessibility
on the Internet in Austria.
The FFG (Austrian Research Promotion Society)
has prepared the report.
The State of Austria has given the mandate to do so.
Who is the report intended for?
The report will be sent to the EU.
In addition, it is intended for all people
who are familiar with the topic
or are interested in it.
Why does the report exist?
There are rules from the EU
to the topic "accessibility on the Internet".
The rules state:
The websites and apps of public authorities
must be barrier-free.
The rules are called Web Accessibility Policy.
These rules exist so that the same rules apply
throughout the EU.
This is how all people in the EU get
better access to public websites and apps.
All EU countries have adopted the rules
into their own laws.
This also applies to Austria:
There is a law for the whole of Austria
and a law for each federal state.
There are also rules on surveillance by the EU.
It states: Every EU country needs to monitor
whether public websites and apps are truly barrier-free.
This is what EU countries need to do
send reports to the EU every 3 years.
The first report is from 2021.
This 2024 report is the second report.
In the intervening years, the FFG prepares
an interim report.
The FFG is the Austrian Research Funding Society.
What is in the report?
It shall be reviewed on a regular basis:
whether websites and apps are truly barrier-free.
They will see if they
comply with certain accessibility rules.
These rules are part of a set of EU rules.
Results and test data
of the reviews are included in this report.
